Forest Glen Middle students dropped off 7 miles from stop

Broward County Public Schools investigating incident

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – A group of middle school students in Coral Springs claimed their bus driver dropped them off seven miles away from their stop.

The Forest Glen Middle students said that on Monday, the bus driver tried dropping them off on the wrong side of Riverside Drive, and they would have needed to cross four lanes of traffic to get home. They asked the bus driver to drop them off on the other side of the road, but he kept driving.

Priscilla Colon said the bus driver forced the seven students off the bus at a BP gas station on Sample Road across from Broward Health North.

"He just kept yelling get out of the bus," she said.

Surveillance video from the gas station shows a school bus passing by about 5 p.m., nearly the same time parents said they received calls from their children.

The students said they walked to Broward Health North, where their parents picked them up.

"As soon as I got there, the kids broke down, crying. I was upset," said Daniel Chacon, father of one of the seven. "It's four lanes. Very busy. If you go to Riverside, you see. It's like a main street."

"Something happened to my child, and I have no answer," added Maggie Brayboy, a grandmother of one of the seven.

Parents drove their children to school Tuesday.

According to Broward County Public Schools officials, surveillance cameras on the bus captured the incident. A spokeswoman issued a statement, saying: "We are investigating this incident. Transportation Department representatives reached out to the parents/families of the students this (Monday) evening. We apologize to the students and families impacted by this incident. The safety and security of our students is our highest priority."

The principal of Forest Glen Middle said the bus driver wouldn't be on the same route Tuesday.
