1 killed, 5 injured in tank explosion

20K gallon tank exploded at American Vinyl Company, says Miami-Dade Fire Rescue

OPA-LOCKA, Fla. – One man was killed and five people were injured when a 20,000 gallon storage tank exploded Thursday afternoon at a boat yard.

Thirty-six Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units responded to American Vinyl Company about 2 p.m.

Police said the tank stored chemicals which when compromised, contaminated the site, causing injuries to several other employees.

The man who was killed wasn't immediately identified.

Fire Rescue crews treated the injured employees. Of the five injured, two were transported to a nearby hospital. The other three were treated at the accident site.
