Hialeah man pleads guilty to animal cruelty

Rudesindo 'Rudy' Acosta ran illegal slaughterhouse, police say

HIALEAH, Fla. – A Hialeah man pleaded guilty Wednesday to 15 counts of animal cruelty and confinement.

Rudesindo "Rudy" Acosta was sentenced to 10 years of probation and adjudication was withheld. He must forfeit all of the animals and give $50,000 to the animal mission that assisted the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office in the case.

Acosta can also not own, purchase, sell or transport any livestock.

Police said undercover video captured Acosta running an illegal slaughterhouse where animals were tortured and killed.

Any violation of probation would result in an 85-year prison sentence.
