MIAMI – Police released a sketch Tuesday of a man who allegedly beat and sexually assaulted a woman on New Year's Day.

At 6 a.m. on Jan. 1, the woman was walking to work along Northwest 12th Avenue and 30th Street when police said she saw a man following her.

As the woman began to walk faster, police said the man confronted her, grabbed her purse and threw her to the ground in the open field underneath the metro rail.

The man then told the woman he wanted her, according to Miami police.

As the woman attempted to scream for help, police said the man held her down and began to punch her in the face several times.

The man then took the woman's clothes off and began to sexually assault her. Police said the man then left the scene and the woman called for help.
