Police say man staged girlfriend's murder to look like suicide

Body found inside Grand Motel in Dania Beach

DANIA BEACH, Fla. – A woman was found dead inside a Dania Beach motel Friday morning after police received reports of a suicide, but the investigation revealed something quite different.

On Friday morning, the Broward Sheriff's Office received a call from a 23-year-old man who told them his girlfriend of just four days had killed herself.

When detectives arrived at The Grand Motel, the scene didn't seem to match the man's story.

Their suspicions were confirmed when the medical examiner ruled the woman's death a homicide.

She was later identified as 22-year-old Krizia Nunez of Aventura.

By Friday afternoon, police say the man, Carlos Cadavid (pictured), had confessed to killing her.

Upon executing a search warrant later Friday afternoon is when deputies said they found Xanax and marijuana.

Juan Restrepo said Cadavid is his brother.

Restrepo said Cadavid played high school baseball at Hollywood Hills. According to MaxPreps.com, Cadavid played during the 2006-2007 school year.

When Cadavid was 18 or 19, Restrepo said Cadavid was shot and lost a leg as a result of the shooting. Restrepo said Cadavid has struggled ever since the incident.

Records show Cadavid was previously charged with failing to register a vehicle, failing to wear a safety belt, public consumption of alcohol, leaving highway to avoid traffic, driving while on a suspended driver's license, carrying a concealed firearm, and tampering with physical evidence.

Restrepo said he didn't know where Cadavid was after Cadavid recently moved out of their Hollywood family home.

Restrepo knew Nunez and said he saw her around before Friday's incident.
