Man killed after crash on Turnpike

Crash happened on the Turnpike at Commercial Boulevard

TAMARAC, Fla. ā€“ A silver Nissan and another vehicle were involved in a crash at the entrance to the Turnpike on Commercial Boulevard just after 5 Sunday morning.

Police say the driver of the silver Nissan truck, 58-year-old John W. Jenkins, got out of his vehicle to inspect the damage. His wife and 18-year-old son were in the truck at the time, calling 911.

Another driver, 32-year-old Jerson R. Paul, pulled up behind him in a red Dodge truck. When the light turned green, Paul drove through the intersection, striking the man.

A thirdĀ driver, who wasĀ involved in the initial crash, but not responsible for the fatality, took off at that time.

The manĀ struck was transported to Broward Health, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver, who police say was responsible for the death, stayed on scene and will not be cited or charged for the fatality.

Deputies are looking for a metallic or blue Chevy or GMC truck.
