MIAMI – A man briefly escaped from federal custody Tuesday morning in Miami.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman Nestor Yglesias said an immigration fugitive with an extensive criminal history was arrested by ICE agents Tuesday morning.

However, shortly after he was placed in the transport van, a mechanical problem with the locking mechanism allowed the suspect to open the door and escape, Yglesias said.

His escape was short-lived, though. The man was re-apprehended with the help of Miami police a few minutes later.
