Grand Pedestrian Promenade to be built in downtown Miami

The project would extend from Northeast 8 Street to Biscayne Boulevard Way.

MIAMI ā€“ Biscayne Boulevard's busy lanes that cut through downtown Miami could be on their way to becoming a new Grand Pedestrian Promenade.

"We feel that it would reenergize the city, it would connect this wonderful park space we have behind us to the city," said Jerome Hollo, of the downtown development authority.Ā  "It would allow pedestrian traffic to easily cross between the city to the park. It will allow bicycle traffic to travel north and south. Basically we feel great cities have great streets and we want to turn this into a great street."

Parking may be a concern for some, but planners say there will be new parallel parking that will turn into a lane during peak hours.

The project is still waiting for approval at the state level from the Florida Department of Transportation.
