Subway customer gets angry about price of cookies, steals from cash register

Thief gets away with fistful of cash

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – Broward Sheriff's Office deputies are searching for the man who was caught on surveillance video snatching a fistful of cash from a Subway restaurant.

The incident occurred on May 1 at the Subway on North Federal Highway and Northeast Ninth Street in Pompano Beach.

Joaquin Zapata, who was working behind the register at the time, says the man picked up a soda and bag of chips but seemed to change his mind and put the items back.

He then asked Zapata how much the cookies cost and then complained about the price.

Finally, the man gave Zapata a dollar bill, but when Zapata opened the register, the man jumped over the counter and grabbed the money.

Zapata says he fought with the thief for a bit, before the man made off with a fistful of $5 bills.

Anyone with information is asked to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
