Mother of slain Miami police officer thanks community for support

Lucielle Patrick says Tiniko Thompson 'is now in the place she should be'

MIAMI ā€“ The mother of a slain Miami police officer thanked the community Friday for their support these past couple of weeks.

"I would like to thank each and every one of you for your kindness shown to me during this time of my son's death," said Lucille Patrick.

Officer Carl Patrick was found dead inside his Pembroke Pines home earlier this month. Carl Patrick's girlfriend, Tiniko Thompson, was arrested in connection with his death Wednesday.

Investigators said Thompson shot Carl Patrick and took his cellphone so he would not be able to call for help. The medical examiner ruled Carl Patrick would have survived his injuries had he been treated by paramedics.

Thompson's attorney insists his client shot Carl Patrick in self-defense following a fight.

"I'm glad that lady is now in the place she should be for what she has done to my son," added Lucille Patrick.

Thompson faces a charge of second-degree murder.
