According to the city, one of the priorities outlined in Fort Lauderdale's Citywide Vision and Strategic Plan is to transform the city into a fully connected, pedestrian-friendly, multimodal city that improves pedestrian, bicyclist and motorist safety through a complete streets approach.

"Complete Streets offer safe access for all users, including pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists and transit riders of all ages and abilities," the city said in a statement. "Painted intersections, which are murals painted on the pavement at intersections, have proven to be an effective approach to ensuring all users are able to travel safely across city streets in a functional and visually appealing environment."

The painting took place in partnership with the Riverwalk Trust, Downtown Development Authority and the Media Lab.
