PANAMA CITY, Fla. – Officials in Panama City say a new father is dead after a neighbor accidentally fired a gun into the family's home during a gathering to celebrate the infant's homecoming.
Steven Justin Ayers, 33, died Tuesday night after the stray bullet struck his head.

According to arrest reports, Ayers' neighbor was on his porch and picked up a loaded 9mm pistol. The neighbor told authorities that he accidentally discharged the pistol.
The man was arrested and charged with manslaughter and with being felon in possession of a firearm. He had a previous felony conviction for carrying a concealed firearm.
Ayers was a musician who played venues throughout the Panhandle. He also taught guitar lessons.
