DAVIE, Fla. – Only one northbound lane of Florida's Turnpike was open early Thursday morning near Griffin Road after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the crash happened about 5 a.m. and identified the pedestrian killed as 18-year-old Nohely Pichardo.
According to troopers, Pichardo was walking along the side of the turnpike when a black sedan hit her. A beige pickup truck then hit the sedan.
Pichardo was pronounced dead at the scene. The drivers of the two vehicles were not injured.
According to friend of Pichardo, she asked to be let out of a car on the Turnpike after having an argument with her friends.
Troopers said no citations will be given since Pichardo was not supposed to be walking on the turnpike.
