Ga. man dies while diving in Fla. Keys on Labor Day

Body of Larry Rowan found in water hours after brother-in-law, friend separated

KEY WEST, Fla. – A Georgia man died while diving in the Florida Keys on Labor Day.

Larry Rowan, 59, of Tifton, Georgia, was on a private vessel with his brother-in-law and a friend near the Spanish Harbor Bridge when they went diving for lobsters Monday afternoon, Monroe County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Becky Herrin said.

The three men separated, but only two returned to the boat.

After looking for Rowan for a short time, the men called the U.S. Coast Guard.

Rowan's body was found about three hours after they began diving.

Herrin said Rowan still had his dive gear on him, and there was no sign of injury to his body. An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
