KEY WEST, Fla. – A Clearwater woman died Monday after scuba diving in the Florida Keys.

Elizabeth Hoaglin, 68, was on a boat trip with friends in the lower Keys when witnesses said they saw her struggling on the surface after being underwater for a few minutes, Monroe County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Becky Herrin said.

Friends pulled her into the boat, began performing CPR and called the U.S. Coast Guard for help.

The Coast Guard took Hoaglin to shore, where she was met by paramedics. Hoaglin was taken to Lower Keys Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
