Man killed in police-involved shooting in Homestead

Police: Suspect assaulting ex-girlfriend

HOMESTEAD, Fla. – A man who was assaulting his ex-girlfriend was fatally shot by police in Homestead, police said.

Police said a 44-year-old woman and her 14-year-old son were at their home near Southeast First Street and Southeast 22nd Avenue on Saturday night when the woman's ex-boyfriend confronted her and repeatedly punched her.

When officers arrived at the home, the woman was screaming and the man, who has not been identified, armed himself with a gun, police said.

Officers shot the man, who remained armed, so additional shots were fired, police said.

The man was taken to Kendall Regional Medical Center, where he died.

The woman and her son were removed from the home unharmed.

No officers were injured.
