DAVIE, Fla. – Police have arrested a man they say followed a woman home early Wednesday morning after she won more than $8,000 at the Seminole Classic Casino.
According to the arrest report, Del Jimmyo Wright-Johnson, 21, was captured on surveillance cameras watching the baccarat table the victim was playing at. When the woman left the casino, Wright-Johnson was shown leaving just seconds behind her and watching her as she got into her car in the parking lot.
The woman told police she felt like she was being followed while driving to her Davie home. When she began walking to her front door she heard someone behind her say, "Excuse me, ma'am?"
The woman said she ran to her door, but Wright-Johnson pushed the door open as she was trying to close it, threw her to the floor and pulled her purse off of her shoulder.
She said inside the purse was more than $8,000 in chips.
Later that morning, Wright-Johnson attempted to cash $2,097 in casino chips. The cashier told him she needed identification and his debit card. When Wright-Johnson returned to the casino, he was arrested.
Police said the victim's purse was found inside his car. It's unclear whether the remaining chips were found inside the purse.
Just a couple of months ago, Wright-Johnson was arrested after he allegedly grabbed $8,500 worth of chips from a poker table at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood.
In that case, police said Wright-Johnson told a friend he had gotten kicked out of the casino on June 13, and wasn't able to cash his chips.
His friends attempted to cash a $1,000 chip for him, but couldn't due to the casino being on alert for the stolen chips.
Seminole spokesman Gary Bitner released a statement Thursday saying, "It's stupid for people to think they can get away with something like this. There are more security cameras per square foot in a casino than any other place on the planet."
