Water main break floods Fort Lauderdale neighborhood

Officials: 90 homes affected

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Ninety homes are being affected after a water main broke in a Fort Lauderdale neighborhood Thursday morning.

Sky 10 was over the scene at Northeast 59th Court and 21st Lane, near N. Federal Highway shortly before 10:30 a.m.

Crews with Fort Lauderdale Public Works were at the scene closing off the streets, while water could be seen bubbling out of the ground and flooding the roads.

The neighborhood's circular driveways are now drying up, but the flooded streets trapped residents inside of their homes earlier in the morning.

The cause of the water main break appears to be the failing of an old 8-inch pipe.

The water main has since been fixed, but officials have placed the homeowners affected under a 48-hour boil water order as a precaution.
