Fisherman finds woman's body floating in Biscayne Bay

Body of woman discovered near Julia Tuttle Causeway

MIAMI – A woman's body was discovered Thursday morning floating in Biscayne Bay.

On Friday, Miami police identified the body as that of 41-year-old Caridad Rodriguez.

A man who was fishing with his wife spotted the body in the water near the Julia Tuttle Causeway.

Police said there were signs of trauma on the Rodriguez's body. They said she was fully clothed, possibly wearing a wetsuit or a jumpsuit.

"There's a lot of possibilities, but like I said, it's early on in the investigation," Officer Frederica Burden told Local 10 News on Thursday. "We don't know what happened. We just know that we have the body of a deceased female that was found floating in the water."

Rodriguez's body was taken to the medical examiner's office Thursday afternoon to determine a cause of death.

"We still have to factor in the amount of time the person may have been in the water," Miami Department of Fire-Rescue Capt. Ignatius Carroll told Local 10.
