72-year-old crossing guard hit by car in Sunrise

Victim taken to hospital, listed in stable condition

SUNRISE, Fla. – A 72-year-old crossing guard was rushed to the hospital after he was hit by a car driven by a young woman in Sunrise.

The crash happened just after 8 a.m. off Northwest 94th Avenue and 44th Street about 45 minutes before his shift was supposed to end.

The crossing guard's supervisor identified the victim as Edgar, who he said has been helping students cross the street to Westpine Middle School for two years.

The driver's mother told Local 10 News that the whole thing was an accident and said her daughter stayed at the scene and called 911.

The victim was taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where he is listed in stable condition.

Police said no charges have been filed against the driver at this time.
