Construction worker injured after wall of rebar falls on him

Firefighters use crane to lower man to ground

MIAMI – A construction worker was injured Friday morning after a wall of rebar fell on him, Miami Fire Department spokesman Lt. Ignatius Carroll told Local 10 News.

The 25-year-old man was working on the 29th floor of the Brickell City Centre when the rebar fell on him.

Firefighters stabilized the man in a basket and used a crane to lower him to the ground.

"I was just making sure he was OK, how he was feeling, if he felt nauseous at all," said firefighter Anna Forienza, who repelled down the building with the worker. "We are pretty high up there. He doesn't know what's going on. He couldn't see anything. I could see around, he couldn't see, so I would just tell him, 'We're close to the ground. How are you feeling?' And he was OK."

The man was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center in stable condition, but he was expected to be OK.

Firefighters said he suffered head injuries, but his helmet is likely what saved his life.

It was not immediately known what caused the wall to fall.
