Coast Guard searching for missing Keys diver
Over 1,200 square miles have been searched off Islamorada
ISLAMORADA, Fla. – The U.S. Coast Guard continued its search Monday for a diver missing since Saturday afternoon.
The unidentified 32-year-old diver left Islamorada with his brother aboard a boat at 7 a.m. Saturday and were scheduled to return at 5 p.m the same day.
Coast Guard officials in Key West were notified of the missing vessel when it was reported overdue on Saturday evening.
The Cutter Dependable found one diver clinging to a mooring ball approximately three miles off the coast of Islamorada, but were unable to locate the other diver.
The rescued man said the pair were diving and upon resurfacing, found that their boat had drifted. The man's brother allegedly swam after the drifting boat and soon disappeared.
As of Monday morning, Coast Guard crews had searched more than 1,200 square miles in waters 15 miles off the coast of Islamorada.
