POMPANO BEACH, Fla. ā€“ A woman is facing charges after biting part of a man's ear off in Pompano Beach while breaking up a fight between the victim and her son Oct. 17, the Broward Sheriff's Office said.

Walter Chace, 55, told deptuies that he was sitting on his balcony smoking a cigarette when he spotted the mother and son. He said he yelled at them to get away from his trailer, and said Smigels responded, "(Expletive) you, nobody tells me what to do."

Chace told his girlfriend to call 911 and walked down to confront the burglary suspects.

Chace said a verbal argument between he and Smigels quickly turned physical and at some point Grant bit down on Chace's left ear and tore off the upper part of the ear before spitting it to the ground.

Deputies eventually arrived, broke up the fight and transported Chace to the hospital. A surgeon was not able to reattach the one-third portion of Chace's ear due to risk of significant infection.

Smigels was also charged in the incident and faces multiple other drug charges. Grant is charged with one count of aggravated battery causing bodily harm or disability.
