Flatbed truck catches fire after Turnpike extension crash

Driver of car taken to hospital with minor injuries; driver of truck not hurt

MIRAMAR, Fla. – A flatbed truck caught fire after a crash Monday morning on Florida's Turnpike extension near the Miami-Dade County and Broward County line.

Sky 10 was above the scene as firefighters doused the charred remains of the truck and another car in the southbound lanes of the Homestead extension.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, traffic suddenly came to a stop and the truck jackknifed into the BMW, sending both vehicles slamming into the guardrail. The truck's fuel tank then caught fire.

The driver of the car, Einstein Hibbert, 47, was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital to be treated for minor injuries. The driver of the truck wasn't injured.

All lanes of the turnpike extension were closed in both directions for about an hour after the crash.
