Coast Guard suspends search for man off Hallandale Beach

Inflatable raft found adrift shortly after man paddles into ocean

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended the search for a man who disappeared off the coast of Hallandale Beach.

The search began Monday after a Hallandale Beach lifeguard told the Coast Guard he saw a man with no lifejacket paddle into the ocean with an inflatable raft, which he later spotted adrift.

Crews searched more than 155 square nautical miles by air and water over the two-day search. A Broward Sheriff's Office helicopter crew also assisted.

"Search and rescue crews worked tirelessly in their search for the missing person," said Capt. Todd M. Coggeshall, chief of response management for the Coast Guard in Miami Beach. "Despite our best efforts, we have been unable to locate him and have made the difficult decision to suspend the search pending any further developments."
