Man shot outside bar at Shops at Pembroke Gardens

Calvin Rahman accused of shooting Andrew Verde outside Cigar Bar

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – Pembroke Pines police have made an arrest in an early morning shooting at a popular hangout spot.

The shooting happened just before 3 a.m. outside of Cigar Bar.

Police said Andrew Verde, 20, was shot after he got into a fight with Calvin Rahman.

Rahman, 22, was arrested on a felony charge of attempted murder.

Verde was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood. Police said he has non-life-threatening injuries and was expected to be OK.

Verde's family told Local 10 News the bullet went through his chest and arm.

The Shops at Pembroke Gardens is a popular hangout spot, with dozens of retail shops, restaurants and bars. Early Monday morning, crime scene tape surrounded a block of the shopping center as police investigated the shooting.

"I've been here a few times, but I never expected this to happen especially in Pembroke Pines," said Viviana Hernandez, who witnessed the shooting.

Police remained at the scene for hours interviewing witnesses.

"I'm not sure what started the fight," said Hernandez. "They came out the door -- it was like four guys. They were here arguing and just started fighting."

The manager at Cigar Bar arrived at the scene but did not want to talk about what happened.

A friend of Verde's, who was also involved in the fight, told Local 10 he is doing well.
