Man survives being shot in forehead during robbery

Paris Rome speaks exclusively to Local 10 News about ordeal

MIAMI – A man who survived being shot in the forehead during a robbery at a Miami restaurant spoke exclusively to Local 10 News about the ordeal.

"I heard them shooting, but I didn't actually know I was hit and then, I guess, the blood started dripping and I thought it was mustard and ketchup or something," Rome said. "I felt it. Then I felt the hole."

Rome recalled how he first realized he had been shot during an armed robbery at the Rami Meat Market.

On the way to the hospital, Rome thought he wasn't going to live, but doctors were able to reassure him.

"Well, they told me the bullet didn't go in," Rome said. "I guess the impact from whatever it hit first slowed it down a little bit."

His wife, Sonya Johnson, owns the restaurant where the shooting occurred. She said two hooded gunmen entered and a shootout ensued between them and Rome.

"My mind was like, 'What are y'all doing? You don't have to do this," Johnson said.

The two robbers were able to run away after taking a customer's gold chain.

Rome was well enough to spend Christmas at home.

"Whatever reason they done it for, I just hope they don't do it again and I'm glad that I didn't kill nobody," he said.

Rome said the customer whose gold chain was stolen was one of his relatives.

"I don't even know if it was real or not," he said.

Police are still searching for the gunmen.
