Forbes and another man, identified Friday as Stacy Williams, were inside a suspected getaway car used in a robbery of a Western Union in Miami-Dade County. The car's license plate led police to a home in Miramar.

Police spotted the car in the area and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver led officers on a chase that ended in Miami.

Miramar police spokeswoman Tania Rues said the suspects tried to run for it and opened fire at officers. She said at least one officer returned gunfire.

Forbes, 28, was fatally wounded in the shootout. The convicted felon had been wanted on a probation violation at the time.

Williams was arrested on charges of resisting arrest and marijuana possession.
