Gunmen hold 6 hostage inside Palm Springs grocery store

Armed robbers get away before SWAT team enters store

PALM SPRINGS, Fla. – Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office deputies are searching for three masked gunmen who robbed a South Florida grocery store Thursday morning, holding six people hostage.

The incident occurred at the Casa Vieja grocery store on Lake Worth Road in Palm Springs about 7 a.m.

One of the victims was pistol-whipped and suffered minor injuries, Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said. A woman who wasn't feeling well was also evaluated by paramedics, Bradshaw said.

A woman used her cellphone to call 911 while she and five others hid inside a storage closet. Others were able to run outside.

By the time the SWAT team entered the store, the gunmen were gone.
