HIALEAH, Fla. – Last year, it was a Mercedes Benz. On Sunday, it was a pickup truck.
A Hialeah resident told police he walked out of his home, 470 E. 51 St., to watch his 2003 Chevy pickup truck engulfed in flames Sunday night.
It was déjà vu for Hector Rodriguez La Fuentes. He lost a Mercedes Benz parked in front of his home to a mysterious fire Aug. 10, 2014. The cause of that incident was unknown since investigators said there were no signs of arson.
This time surveillance video caught an arsonist in action in front of his house. While the driver of a van waited, a man approached the pickup truck at 11:37 p.m.
It took the arsonist less than 10 seconds to pour a flammable substance on the top of the hood, pour a trail a few feet away from the truck and set it on fire. In four seconds, the flames traveled to the hood and engine.
The arsonist ran and fled in the van. Police were asking anyone with information to call Hialeah police at 305-953-5300.
