Miami-Dade police cruiser shot outside officer's home

Officer not hurt

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A Miami-Dade police cruiser was found filled with bullet holes Thursday morning.

"I came out to walk my dog this morning and I noticed the trunk on my police car was opened," the officer told Local 10 News.

The officer, whose identity is being withheld, said she heard five shots outside her home near Southwest 104th Avenue and Southwest 181st Street about 11 p.m. Wednesday.

Miami-Dade police were called and taped off the area, gathering evidence.

The officer said she doesn't believe she was targeted. Rather, she thinks it's just someone with a gun who picked a random target in a neighborhood that hears gunfire too often.

"The neighborhood gets shot up most every night," neighbor Frank Smith said.

The officer was not hurt, but she had a message for whoever is responsible.

"Yes, we're police officers, but we're people first and we have families that we are concerned about," she said.

Police are investigating.
