FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A man was rushed to the hospital after a boat overturned Wednesday night in the ocean off Fort Lauderdale, deputies said.
The Broward Sheriff's Office said the people on board the 18-foot boat were rescued. It is believed they were fishing.
Rescuers said someone who was on board called 911 on a cellphone about 8:30 p.m.
The boat was found a mile off a Fort Lauderdale beach. Four people wearing life jackets were found clinging to the boat.
Authorities said divers found a fifth victim shortly after underwater.
The victim found under water was taken to 15th Street Fisheries near Port Everglades while waiting to be taken to the hospital and was then taken to Broward Health Medical Center. The other four people were taken to the U.S. Coast Guard in Fort Lauderdale.
