Man suffers burns trying to extinguish Miami-Dade County house fire

Victim taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A man was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital after he tried to extinguish a fire at a northeast Miami-Dade County home.

The man was home alone when it caught fire, so he tried to put it out with a garden hose.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said the man, identified by a neighbor as Greg Simi, was taken to the hospital to be treated for minor burns and smoke inhalation.

Firefighters eventually were able to put out the flames at 415 NE 146th St.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
