MIAMI – A copper wire thief or thieves forced a Miami day care to close Tuesday morning is back open on Wednesday.
Someone broke the locks at the Sunshine & Sunset Day Care & Kindergarten Inc. early Tuesday, stealing copper wire that left the building without electricity.
Betty Joseph, who opened the center in 1976, was forced to turn away children who came to the day care Tuesday, leaving parents scrambling to make other arrangements.
"I think it's a shame that they would come in and do something like this to a school, you know, any school -- my school (or) any other school," Joseph told Local 10 News.
Joseph said someone stole the air-conditioning units at the day care three years ago.
Miami police are investigating the theft.
