New video shows taped depositions of parents believed to have buried baby

Parents blame each other for 6-month-old son's death

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Video recordings showing the taped depositions of two parents after their baby boy was found buried in their backyard is being heard a year after the gruesome discovery.

Brittaney Sierra and Calvin Melvin have both been charged with child neglect in connection with the disappearance and death of their 6-month-old son, Dontrell Melvin, in January 2014.

Police discovered the boy was apparently missing for 18 months while investigating an unrelated child neglect case. The boy's remains were later found in a makeshift grave in the backyard of a home the couple once shared.

However, the state attorney said there was not sufficient evidence to charge them with murder.

On Wednesday, Local 10 News obtained video of both Sierra and Melvin as they are interviewed by Hallandale homicide detectives as they search for Dontrell. In the video, it's clear each of them tries to point the blame for Dontrell's disappearance at the other.

"Detective, all I can think is that he killed him," said Sierra. "That's all. But I think … I don't want to think about it that way. … I feel like either he killed my son or he just put him somewhere and left. Nobody knows."

No description found

Sierra also claimed that she suffered abuse from the hands of Melvin.

On Thursday, both Sierra and Melvin are expected to appear in court for status hearings.
