Maurice White, 46, was riding his bicycle on State Road 84 near Ravenswood Road early Sunday morning when he was struck from behind by a red 2015 Chevrolet Impala.

Broward Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion said a Hollywood man saw news reports of the hit-and-run and then noticed a car hidden under a blue car cover parked in a neighbor's back yard. He called Hollywood police, who in turn led BSO traffic homicide investigators to the home.

Concepcion said the car's damage was consistent with the car believed to be involved in the hit-and-run.

Deputies obtained a search warrant and had the car towed as evidence. The investigation revealed that the car had been rented by Lee.

According to the BSO report, Lee's sister told a detective that "Lee wanted to turn himself in because he felt bad about what happened."

Lee turned himself in about 10 a.m. Tuesday after hiring a lawyer.

White worked as a chief engineer for a yacht and used his bicycle to travel. He is survived by his siblings in Gainesville and Ireland.
