NORTH MIAMI, Fla. – A woman accused of punching an 11-year-old girl and fought with parents is out of jail, North Miami police said.
Guerda Fontil, 39, was arrested Thursday and faces a charge of child abuse.
North Miami police said Fontil was driving Wednesday when she passed by a girl who was reprimanding her younger brother for attempting to run into traffic.
Fontil got out of her sport utility vehicle, punched the child, pushed her to the ground, pinned her down and repeatedly kicked the child and grabbed her by the throat, police said.
Parents who witnessed the attack had to pull Fontil off the child. They attempted to restrain her, but she drove off, police said.
The next day, the parents confronted Fontil at Natural Bridge Elementary School, where they began to fight.
Police were called and arrested Fontil, who was identified by witnesses as the woman who attacked the child.
In court Saturday, a Miami-Dade County judge ordered Fontil to stay away from the girl.
Fontil was released on bond Saturday.
