Search suspended for man who fell overboard Carnival Glory
Coast Guard: Cameron Smook, 21, fell from 6th deck balcony
MIAMI – The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended its search for a 21-year-old Virgina Tech student who fell overboard a cruise ship on Sunday morning.
Authorities said Cameron Smook was on the Carnival Glory when he fell from a 6th deck balcony.
The ship was about five miles south of Abaco Island, Bahamas when Smook fell over, authorities said.
The Coast Guard launched a helicopter to search for Smook after Carnival notified authorities of his fall.
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Smook family during this very difficult time. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we were unable to locate Cameron," said Capt. Todd Coggeshall, chief of response management for the Coast Guard 7th District.
The Carnival Glory was on a seven-day cruise out of PortMiami.
