MIAMI – A high school junior has died after she was hit by a car in Miami, her family told Local 10 News.
Dericka Banks, 18, was struck by a car on Feb. 28 and left for dead on the road near Northwest 54th Street and 13th Avenue. Her boyfriend was walking with her at the time.
"It was like a boom," her boyfriend, Satchal Rivers, said. "It was real loud, and when I looked back she was in front of the car."
Witnesses said the car never tried to stop.
According to her family, Banks had broken bones in her arm and leg, head trauma and lung damage. She had been at Jackson Memorial Hospital since the crash.
The vehicle was described by witnesses as a champagne-colored SUV with extensive damage to the front bumper, or no bumper at all.
