2 in custody after bailing out of stolen car in Hialeah

3 nearby schools placed on lockdown as precaution

HIALEAH, Fla. – Two suspects are in custody after bailing out of a stolen car in Hialeah.

Miami-Dade police said officers were attempting to pull over the stolen Honda Accord when the 17-year-old driver and his 14-year-old passenger bailed out near Northwest 70th Street and 33rd Avenue.

The girl was immediately apprehended, but the boy ran into a neighborhood near the Marcia Machado Plaza.

Police K-9 officers tracked down the suspect, who was hiding in a garbage can.

Madelaine Noriega said she saw the teen climb into her garbage can and watched as the police dog attacked him. She said the suspect was bleeding when he was taken into custody. But his shoe remained in her garbage can as a memento of where he tried to hide.

Ernest R. Graham K-8 Academy, Hialeah Gardens Middle and Hialeah Gardens High schools were all briefly placed on lockdown as a precaution.
