MIAMI – The tears have flowed nonstop for a heartbroken family after a man was shot and killed while standing in the driveway of his home in Miami. Now, they are asking for anyone who may have witnessed the shooting to come forward.
The widow of Willie Warren, 77, said she can't believe this happened to her husband, who recently retired after 60 years of working at a foundry plant.
"I don't understand. To know him was to love him," said the victim's wife, Willie Jean Coleman.
Warren was in his driveway Saturday night, sitting in his maroon Cadillac, a car, his family said, he adored. With his dog, Lexi, nearby, two or three men ambushed him and left him for dead.
Warren was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police believe the would-be robbers were after Warren's jewelry although none of it was taken.
"I just left him to go to the grocery store," said Coleman. "Everything was fine, and within an hour, it was a disaster."
"For them to take to take his life and just leave him lying there, it's just heartless," said the victim's niece, Harvette Smith.
According to neighbors, the area around 34th Street and 13th Avenue hasn't been the same since the shooting.
"We're begging if there's anyone, if you hear a conversation, if you were in the area to please call police and tell them what you saw or heard," said Smith.
"I'm going to miss my husband," said Coleman. "He didn't deserve to go like this."
Anyone with any information about this crime is asked to call police.
