NORTH MIAMI, Fla. – A 22-year-old man has been charged with kidnapping and aggravated battery after he tried to abduct a teenage girl who was walking to school Tuesday morning, police said.

According to an arrest report, Jeffrey Philemy approached the victim on his bicycle in the area of Northeast 148th Street and 16th Avenue.

Police said Philemy asked the girl if she attended North Miami Beach Senior High School. After ignoring Philemy, he grabbed her arm and told her to come with him, police said.

The girl tried to pull away, at which point Philemy pulled out a gun, placed it to her temple and threatened to shoot her if she didn't leave with him, police said.

According to the report, a vehicle traveling in their direction flashed its lights, and the victim was able to break free and run to a person nearby for help.

Police said Philemy rode off on his bicycle but was found later that afternoon.
