DORAL, Fla. – The Miami Dade College garage in Doral is more than 50 percent dismantled after it collapsed while under construction in October 2012.
Officials at Miami Dade College's West Campus told Local 10 News that the garage is slowly being dismantled and is expected to be completely down in about two months.
Once it is taken down a new garage will be built in its place.
The collapse was one of the worst workplace accidents in South Florida history, killing four construction workers, with one of them missing in the rubble for a week.
Five of the contracting companies that worked on the $20-million five-story garage have been fined nearly $40,000 for errors and oversights in the pre-cast construction.
