Woman arrested in hit-and-run of Canadian tourist bonds out of jail

Olivia Bennett accused of hitting a tourist, leaving scene

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – The suspect in a hit-and-run that left a Canadian tourist in a medically-induced coma has bonded out of jail.

Olivia Bennett, 26, walked out of jail early Tuesday morning, but she had nothing to say to Local 10 News.

Police said Bennett was driving her BMW at a high rate of speed along Northeast Fifth Avenue early Sunday morning when she struck Alexander Sanghwan, 23, and left the scene.

Sangwhan was recently accepted to medical school and was visiting Miami for Ultra Music Festival.

Bennett's car was found abandoned Monday in a parking lot at Tootsie's Cabaret with visible damage to the frame after her attorney called police to let them know where she had left it.

Police said Bennett does not have a Florida driver's license and was unable to provide a license from any other state.

Bennett faces charges of leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury and reckless driving that caused serious bodily injury.
