TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Three Ku Klux Klan members were arrested Thursday by the FBI in Florida after plotting to kill a former inmate upon his release from prison, the state attorney general announced Thursday.
Thomas Driver, 25, David Moran, 47, and Charles Newcomb, 42, all face one count of conspiracy to commit murder.
Driver and Moran work for the Florida Department of Corrections, and Newcomb is a former corrections employee.
Attorney General Pam Bondi said that the trio conceived the murder plot as retaliation for a fight between the inmate, who is black, and Driver.
"They later cased the inmate's home in an attempt to murder him by injecting him with insulin and putting a fishing pole in his hand and making it look like he drowned,"
Several state and federal agencies assisted in the investigation.
Bondi said all three men face up to 30 years in prison if convicted.
