Robbery suspect in critical condition after stunned by Taser

Man accused of robbing Hallandale Beach laundromat

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – A man is in critical condition after he was stunned by at least one Taser following a robbery in Hallandale Beach.

A woman who works next door to the Atlantic Shores Coin Laundry off U.S. Highway 1 told Local 10 News that she saw a man go inside the back office of the business.

Lucia Blando, who works at the laundromat said she followed him in, but the man shoved her aside and took off.

A good Samaritan saw what was happening and flagged down a police officer.

Police said the suspect tried to get away by jumping over a fence and dropped his wallet. The good Samaritan picked the wallet up and convinced the alleged robber to jump back over the fence.

Police handcuffed the suspect and said he then became violent.

"Put your hands behind your back, put your hands behind your back; they kept saying it over and over and over," witness Mary Piccuillo said.

Police said they had no choice but to stun the suspect with a Taser.

Police said the man stole $75 that was kept inside the office. He was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital where he remains in critical condition.

Police have not released his identity.
