Stolen SUV crashes into pole in southwest Miami-Dade County

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. ā€“ Two men are accused of carjacking a family and leading police on a brief chase that ended in a crash Saturday morning in southwest Miami-Dade County.

The armed carjacking happened about 4:45 a.m. at the Westar gas station on the corner of Southwest 216th Street and South Dixie Highway.

Miami-Dade police said the victim was with his wife and 15-year-old daughter pumping gas when he was stabbed by one of the men.

Police said the man was able to defend himself with a pocket knife while his wife and daughter got out of the SUV. During the altercation, the assailants got into the SUV and drove away.

The family called police, who began searching for the two men.

Ultimately, police found the men in the stolen SUV just a few blocks away from the gas station. After a short pursuit, the men crashed the SUV into a pole at a bus way on the corner of Southwest 232nd Street and South Dixie Highway.

Both men were airlifted to nearby Kendall Regional Medical Center, where they remain in critical condition under police custody.

The victim was also taken to a hospital for his injuries, but he was expected to be released later Saturday. His wife and daughter were not hurt.

The identities of both men have not been release as this is still an ongoing investigation.
