Guatemalan man wanted on sexual assault charges arrested at MIA

26-year-old fugitive arrested, awaiting extradition to Maine

MIAMI – A Guatemalan man wanted on sexual assault charges in South Portland, Maine was arrested this week at Miami International Airport.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman Keith Smith said the 26-year-old man was arriving from Mexico City Wednesday when CBP officers identified him as a wanted fugitive.

The man was fingerprinted, which officers said verified that he was the person wanted in connection with the sexual assault.

"CBP officers work closely with local, state, and federal law enforcement partners to make sure wanted fugitives face justice," said MIA Port Director Christopher Maston. "We remain vigilant and will continue to proactively address threats, minimize vulnerabilities and maximize security."

The man, whose identity was not released, was arrested and turned over to the Miami-Dade Police Department for extradition to Maine.
