Miami police investigate shooting in Coconut Grove

Man in stable condition after early morning shooting

MIAMI – Miami police are investigating after one person was shot early Monday morning in Coconut Grove.

A man was shot in the upper body just before 4:30 a.m. at a home at 3574 William Ave., Miami police Detective Frederica Burden confirmed. He was taken by a witness to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.

Police set up evidence markers as they investigated, but no one has been taken into custody.

Neighbors told Local 10 News reporter Michael Seiden that they heard as many as two dozen gunshots. Some said they initially thought they were hearing fireworks.

"I thought it was fire rockets. That's all I thought," said a woman who lives nearby. "But I kept lying down. I didn't get up, because I was afraid if I get up it might be anything else."

"There's been shooting reported in the past, but it's concerning because it's the area that we live in. I'd like to have it safe and secure," said Coconut Grove resident Andrew Rosenberg.

Five to six blocks were shut down in the area as police continued their investigation.
