PLANTATION, Fla. – A Plantation police officer shot a man who punched him in the face during a confrontation behind an office building Sunday night, police said.
Detective Philip Toman said the officer was on routine patrol when he spotted the man behind the Doctors Plus Professional Center and asked him to leave, but the man "ended up punching the officer in the face."
"The officer discharged his Taser, which was ineffective," Toman said. "At some point in time, he discharged his firearm."
Toman didn't say how many times the man was shot.
The man was taken to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale. His condition wasn't known.
The veteran officer was taken to Westside Regional Medical Center.
Their identities haven't been released.
